One Book, One City for Kids is an annual reading program that encourages all 5th graders in the city to read and discuss the same book. The program also strives to encourage a lifelong love of reading among students, to inspire readers to bring story ideas and themes to life through discussion, and to build collaborative ties between public libraries, school libraries, and area schools. This year the entire city will be reading "Front Desk" by Kelly Yang.

Chapter 17 - Friends
What happened between Lupe and Mia that
made them closer friends? Has anything like that ever happened in a friendship
of yours? (chapter 17)
Lupe and Mia have lots in common. Like they are poor and they are immigrations. Also both work for Mr. Yao. Yes, A similer thing happennd to me. Like I have two BEST friends who are from different countries. Like One is from Vietnam and the other one is from Mexico. I am from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Yes, you probaly never heard of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It's in Europe
When Mia was intruducing herself at school she lied about having a dog and having a house with a pool (even though the motel had one.) The reason Lupe and Mia became better friends is because Lupe lied too. She said she had a big house and a golden retreiver like Mia said she had too. I think a reason of why they also became friends is because they have some of the same interests and are both poor. I can't think of anything like that that's happend to me.
lupe and mia are both poor and they made up stories because they both tought if they told each other the truth that they would not like each other or want to be friends
Lupe and Mia lied to each other about their lives, saying that they had LOTS of money, and a great house. But they confessed when Lupe and her dad came over and accidentaly saw Mia, and Lupe's dad fixed the cable. After confessing, the girls had lots of things to relate to. My friend is from Africa. Like, RIGHT from an African country. I am Irish, Canadian, British and Dutch. We are like, BEST FRIENDS, and it doesn't matter if we are different.
Lupe and Mia have lots of things in common, like being poor immigrants... Yet I don't find that fair. They should be at least a little bit wealthier and should not be immigrants. It's horrible!!!😡😫
A cable broke and someone had to come fix it.Then the people came a girl and a man the girl was Lupe and the man was her dad.They both stand next to each other.After that Mia stared to talk then Lupe did to.They were talking and both lied that they had a dog and had no trampoline that was what made them closer.
Mia and Lupe both have family who work for Mr.Yao and they were Lieing about the dogs and that they both told the truth. this happen to me and friend we started arguing about something i lied about then i told the truth.
They compared notes and got talking to each other more, Mia told the truth about the motel and that she doesn't live in a big house with a retriever. I don't recall this happening to me.
when the motels cable goes down Lupe's family come and Mia and Lupe see each other and when they see each other they it gets super awkward and Mia said '' I do not have a golden ratriver '' Lupe said the same thing. Lupe and Mia confess all the lies they told to each other. They get so relieved that they do not have any lies. any more.
Something that made them closer was that they figured out that they are both poor and they don't have dogs. This made them closer because they know they are alike and knowing your alike makes you feel closer. A time that happened to me was when I figured out someone has the same beliefs as me.
They both saw each other when Lupe's dad was fixing the washing machine so Mia and Lupe said that they both have secrets that they both do not have golden retrievers and that they both work for Mr.Yao. Not really , me and my friends haven't had the experience because we do not really have any secrets.
What happened that made them closer friends was that they both lied about something to make them "cool and they both weren't really rich! They both also know about Mr.Yao and Jason! Me and my Best friend we bonded by we were only born a few days apart!
when the WiFi went out Mia seen Lupe when they seen each other they had to come clean they both told there lies how Mia and Lupe didn't have a big house or dog when they say there lies they forgive each other when there happy Mia found out the Mr Yao owns more then one hotel and how he treats Lupe's dad.-diamond
Lupe and Mia figured out that they both lie about things to not feel sorta left out. But they also realize that they are both experiencing the same thing they are trying to feel like they fit in. Mr. Yao is mean to both of them because they are nothing like him (which is ok). Mr. Yao doesn't like to treat any of his workers with respect. And that is exactly how Mia and Lupe feel. They are able to understand each other and understand what each other is going through. That's one cool thing about friendship.
Sarai-What happen between Mia and Lupe is that they both lied about their life but they ended up both telling the truth.Yes I think that Lupe and Mia's friendship can most likely be like other peoples friendship.
The thing that made them closer as friends was when each other came clean about things that they made up. Also Mia told Lupe the things that were happening in her life, which makes people closer to each other. I know this made them closer because Mia was always happy when Lupe came over to the motel. Something has happened kinda like this in a friendship of mine. My friend and I both told each other something weird about ourselves, which made us much closer.
The thing that happen to them was they told each other that they didn't have a dog or a big trampoline or pool are big home and they didn't have a lot of money.So the thing that makes the friendship better is they are both the same like they are both immigrants and don´t have a lot of cash.
When they saw each other they knew they couldn't lie any longer so they explained there lies. Then they figured out how similar they are so there friendship grew because they can relate.
I think they became more bff my telleing each other their secrets and things like that like saying what has happend to her i nehr life and yes this has happend to me once
I think they also became closer to each other cause they are always hanggingout they wish that Mia Motel Electrisity would stope each time that way they can talk more and get to know more things abt their selfs and tell them all abt their lifes and things like that I think Mia also tell Lupe her personals things cause i sometime also tell My BFF my personals thigs it depends :)😃
They had secrets that nobody knew about that once they shared with each other they found out that being immigrants aren't that bad and knew that they where friends

I think they became closer because now they are telling each other the truth and I think they really share a same experience. I have a cousin that I hadn´t seen in a while and when we saw each other again we found out that we have so much in commen and now we call each other every week.
They are closer friends because Lupe's dad helps with some of the problems at the motel. They have a lot of in common thing also. I tell my bff's almost everything.
They both came clean about lying.But it turns out the both were. and knowing they can be there self's around them made the closer. luckily the lying didn't get out of hand.

Lupe and Mia both lied about their lives. Lupes dad is the repair man for the Calavista motel, Mia didn't know that. Lupe also didn't know that Mia worked at the Calavista motel. After they seen each other they had to confess and tell the truth.
It made them closer because they both wanted to fit in and once Mia realized that Lupe was lying to they started talking and they have a lot in common and they started being friends.

they stopped lying to eachother and they have some stuff in common and since they stopped lying there friendship was even stronger and no that has never happened to any of my frienships
Mia and Lupe became closer friends because they both where lying to each other and they are in the same poor "roller coaster" and they a some stuff in common and Mia fells she doesn't have to hide secrets anymore.

So now Lupe knows to truth about how Mia lived in a motel and worked in a motel but when Lupe sees it she starts to tell the truth about what she said in class and about the house and dogs. This has never ever happen in one of my friendships with someone.
Mai and lupe both lied to each other and when they both say each other when the cable broke, both of them stood awkwardly near the front desk and they both started to talk about what they lied or about what was life for them and they started to become friends. :D

What i think made them closer was that they both lied about their social life at school, but when Mia found out that Lupe's dad was the person who fixed their cable they came clean and told each other that they were both lying about their social life.
They came clean about lying to each other. Because the damn come and clean make the relationship better. I lied to my dad. Afterwards we talked and I told the truth. Because of that we felt better.
They became friends because their parents both work for Mr. Yao and because they start telling the truth to each other and they both have a lot of in common.
Mia and Lupe became closer friends because when they're cable stopped working in the motel Lupe and her Dad came to the Motel. Then they both found out they were both lying about they're social life and told the truth about they're life. I think this is what made them closer friends.
Mia and lupe stopped lying to each other when lupe came to the motel they bothe lied about they dogs and lupe lied about trampoline but they both came true to each and stopped lying.
They both also have some stuff in common, like for example, they both lied, they both dont have dogs, they both dont live in expencive houses like they said they did.
Lupe and Mia was lying to each other. Mia said she had a golden retriever, but in reality she was lying and Lupe lied about having three dogs and a trampoline but she had a small trampoline that you couldn't do flips or stuff like that. Also I have lied to my best friend about having 4 dogs but I didn't.
Mia and lupe was in a similar passion and that what grew them closer together because they finley had someone to talk about what happens with instead of lieing.
I think that they got closer because they told the truth when the saw each other because there was no reason to lie now that they see each others living styles. This never happend to me and my best friend we always tell the truth to each other.

ReplyDeleteWhat i think made them closer was that they both lied about their social life at school, but when Mia found out that Lupe's dad was the person who fixed their cable they came clean and told each other that they were both lying about their social life.
ReplyDeleteThey came clean about lying to each other. Because the damn come and clean make the relationship better. I lied to my dad. Afterwards we talked and I told the truth. Because of that we felt better.

Mia said she had a golden retriever, but in reality she was lying and Lupe lied about having three dogs and a trampoline but she had a small trampoline that you couldn't do flips or stuff like that. Also I have lied to my best friend about having 4 dogs but I didn't.
