One Book, One City for Kids is an annual reading program that encourages all 5th graders in the city to read and discuss the same book. The program also strives to encourage a lifelong love of reading among students, to inspire readers to bring story ideas and themes to life through discussion, and to build collaborative ties between public libraries, school libraries, and area schools. This year the entire city will be reading "Front Desk" by Kelly Yang.

Chapter 3 - Pictures
Mia recalls how “My mom says it’s
important to take pictures of nice moments in life, even if it is just in your
head.” Why do you think the mom believes this? (Chapter 3)
Because taking pictures of good moments in your life can bring back memories you can't remember. For example, I have a photo of me when it was my first birthday. Do I remember that? No. So that's why It's important to take pictures of good memories. And that picture was 10 years ago, now I am 11.

I think her mom said that because if you take mental pictures you can remember good moments in life. If you take metal pictures you will remember those moments forever. It's also useful if you don't have a physical camera. And if you don't have a physical camera it can be fun to pretend you do. If you take a physical picture you can lose it on a file as mental pictures you can't lose them as easily.
Cause maybe she thinks that one day all of the fun time and days will end so like right now in the story they are not getting much money so there life is going kinda down
i think because its a really good gem to remember your childhood memories so MAYBE.. she wants you to remember those memories in your adulthood or teen years.
I think she believes it because you need to hold on to your memories and because they don't have enough money to own a camera she just hold the picture in her own memory card her brain. It might look funny or weird but shes just holding on tighter to important memories.
I think she believes this because negative thoughts and vibes are not good for you. To not dwell on negative energy. When you take a "picture" of nice moments in life it lifts your spirits up and positive energy is good for you!
I think the mom believes this because if u take pictures in life u will remember all the good times maybe some bad and u will remember u did have a life when u feel down.
I think Mia's mom believes that because sometimes there are nice moments in life and we want to to keep hold of those memories so that they last forever in us or on a camera. Because if you capture those nice moments they you can look back on them when you are in a rough situation and try to work harder at that rough situation. It's important to keep those nice moments because then they last in us and keep us going.

maybe too enjoy every moment, in life like how Mr. yao changed the deal and how the washer broke and Mr. yao told them too buy a new washer they had too wash all the tows by hand and when the tows started to stack up and the idea of how they put them in the bath tub to wash all the tows they had made it fun when they were splashing in the water they had turned something bad into something positive and fun instead of bad so they don't have a camera but can picture it in there head when they think of that moment as a memory to carry on with them for as how much they can remember. -diamond

Well,I think she imagines she has a camera to take a memory picture of special things her or her family accomplished it's her way of remembering things.
She thinks that because she thinks you don't need a camera to remember a nice moment in your life with your family, I also believe that because I still remember my family going to a carnival and having fun.
When you have a nice moment in life you have to take an imaginary picture, In your mind the picture will stay so that you remember the nice moment in life.

I think the reason why Mia's mom says this is because she wants to remember good things that happen in her life. So then when she feels sad she can look back at good things so she feels better.
I think Mia's mom wants her to remember the good things in life. If she can remember the good memories it will be easier to know what to do in a different situation. Like if she is feeling sad, she can remember something good.
because its nice to remember things that have happend. And its kind of like opening a treasure chest when you can think of or find pictures or memories.
So then they can remember there memories that they had and even if is not with a camera because then they remember about the people they love or the people that were kind to her or respect her and her mom and dad and because even if you cant oford money or expinseve things you can still take picstures in your mind because then you will remember your loves ones and when the furture comes you wil remember about the past.
They did the pretend picture with a fake camera because like they dont have a camera but there pretending to have take a picture to remember the memories.
Because it's good to remember your good experiences and to look back on them. She probably also believes it so that there is always something good to think about even if the present moment isn't very nice. It's also good to have a happy story to tell in hard times. It probably makes lots of people happy even if that time isn't a good one.
I think that Mia's mom told her to take pictures of all the good moments in life because sometimes when you do not have good moments you will want to look back on those pictures and then remember that one good moment. Even if the pictures are just pretend it is still important to take fake pictures as memories. In the story Mia's mom said "It's important to take pictures of the nice moments in life even if it is just in your head." I think that Mia's mom is right that it is important to take pictures even if it is just in your head so that you can remember the happy moments in life.
When you take pictures even if they are not real and in your head you doing that can help hold memories.Also when you do that you can talk about the pictures when the worse comes to the worse.And when you talk about them it can help you get through the bad times.
I think that Mia's mom believes this because even if you don't have a camera to remember a good moment in your life you still should try to remember it. For example if you have a picture of a happy moment in your life and you were to young to remember it you could still see what it was like. Another example could be that you are experiencing a good moment in your life but you don't have a camera to remember it you could use an imaginary camera to capture that memory.

You want to take pictures of the good moments of life and implant them in your brain so then when you think about them they can make you smile or laugh even if you don't have a camera you can still take pictures and you can take them on a camera it doesn't matter what you do except take pictures of good moments in your life.
I think the buzzer won't go off and Mia is gonna bet in trouble and Mr Yao and maybe Mr Yao will put her on cleaning duty with her Mom and Dad and also maybe get threatened to get fired but i also think her and her Mom and Dad and gonna beg Mr Yao not to and the guy will get mad at her for the buzzer not working and hes gonna yell at her then her Dad, will defend her and tell the guy to leave the motel then shes gonna have to clean up.
I have noticed that in China they say Eggplant before taking a picture and in my country ( Bosnia and Herzegovina ) we say "Ptičica", which means Birdie or Birdy.
I think she believes that because,sometimes you´ll forget great moments and when somebody asks you do you remember that time and you say no then they´ll show you or remind you of that moment and then you´ll remember.
